LV Pharmacy Joins Jersey's Connected Pharmacy Pilot
LV Pharmacy is one of three Jersey pharmacies trialling secure access to key patient records. What it means for your prescriptions, and your privacy.
Have you ever stood at a pharmacy counter trying to remember the name of a tablet your GP started you on last year? Or been asked to come back once the surgery has confirmed something? If so, this news should make those trips a bit easier.
LV Pharmacy on Beresford Street in St Helier is one of three pharmacies in Jersey taking part in a new Government of Jersey pilot. It gives selected pharmacists secure access to key parts of a patient's medical record. The other two are Reids Pharmacy in Longueville and the Co-op pharmacy at the New Era Health Centre.
What pharmacists can now see
Under the pilot, pharmacists have restricted access to:
- your medicines and medication history
- your vaccination history
- any allergies
- relevant medical conditions
They view it through EMIS, the secure system GPs and other healthcare providers already use. Pharmacists don't get your whole file. They see what they need to look after you safely.
Why it matters
Until now, if a pharmacist needed to check something about your health, it usually meant contacting your GP surgery and waiting. That's slow for everyone, and it can mean an extra trip back for you.
Social Security Minister Senator Elaine Millar said: "Giving pharmacists access to the right medical information will help them provide more effective care."
Superintendent pharmacist Matt Johnson said digital access "will improve the speed, accuracy and efficiency of that communication".
In practice, it means our pharmacists can check a new medicine against what you already take, spot an allergy before anything is handed over, and give advice with the full picture in front of them. That should mean fewer delays and fewer return visits.
What about my privacy?
This is the question most people ask first, and they're right to. Information is only looked at when there's a clear clinical reason and it's relevant to the care being given. Nobody browses records out of curiosity, and patient privacy stays protected throughout.

What happens next
