Long-term care scheme
The local authority funding scheme provides financial support to Isle of Man residents who need long-term care for the rest of their life, either at home or in a care home. This means you need significant help with everyday tasks such as getting out of bed and dressing.
The scheme aims to remove any worry you may have about the cost of long-term care. How much financial support you receive depends on what level of help and support you need and what you can afford to pay.
If you cannot pay for your care costs, the scheme can help to cover these costs.
If you can contribute to your care costs, the scheme can support you with care costs, once you have paid for your care costs for a period of time.

Power of attorney
It is wise to consider setting up a Power of Attorney as part of planning for care. This legal document appoints someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf about your health, welfare, or finances, should you become unable to do so yourself.
Having a Power of Attorney in place helps ensure your wishes are understood and followed. It gives families clear authority to act, which can avoid delays and uncertainty at a time when decisions may need to be made quickly.
It can also reduce stress and disagreement between family members, as roles and responsibilities are already agreed. Setting this up early allows you to stay in control of who makes decisions for you and how those decisions should be handled.
